A Note from Sandie

Spring is coming!
Boy, does that look good in writing - especially since there are about 15 inches
of snow outside, and we are all going a little stir-crazy as I write this. Just
a few days ago that pesky groundhog predicted 6 more weeks of winter.
Fortunately, I can count on finding lots of things to do in the Family Events
calendar whether the weather is Lion-like or Lamb-like.
Soon enough it
will be time for summer camp, and this special Camp Preview issue will get you
started on your planning. There are so many different kinds of camp experiences
waiting for your children this summer. I hope that you will take the time to
review the wide variety of options in both day and overnight camps that we have
included in these pages. If you contact one of our advertisers, please be sure
to let them know you read about them in Parents' Source.
Another option for
enriching your summer months (and the rest of the year) is to find a way to
volunteer your time as a family. Our article,
Enrich a Life: Volunteer,
describes the ways that your family can make a difference and grow closer to one
another in the process. It not only tells you how to get started, but it also
shows you how volunteering can benefit the community while also providing
immeasurable benefits to your family. You might be surprised by how easy it is
to find opportunities for your family to help and by how much you are blessed in
return.
Our humor article
Portrait of a Junk Drawer gives a glimpse into a home not much different from
ours where there is a junk drawer in serious need of a purging. Unlike the
author, whose house includes a his and a hers junk drawer, our house has several
all-purpose drawers that become catch-alls based on the size of the "junk."
There is the drawer that gets all the small stuff - twist-ties, rubber bands,
brads from discarded craft projects, bits of string... you get the picture. A
larger drawer holds about 15 plastic film canister containers, candles,
doohickeys for keeping outside tablecloths from blowing away, switch plates,
etc. I could go on. We are lucky, though. We not only have various-sized junk
drawers, but we also have a barn for some of the really hard-to-place items that
may have some possible future use (yes, I know, junk).
Enjoy your spring!
