FREE EXPO TO FOCUS ON WHAT KIDS NEED TO SUCCEED
3rd Annual G.I.V.E. for Kids is Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Fairgrounds
Square Mall, Reading
Unlocking youth potential and engaging the community in proactive ways
to give kids what they need to succeed will be the focus of the 3rd Annual
G.I.V.E. for Kids Expo scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2002 at Fairgrounds
Square Mall in Reading, PA.
This 3rd Annual G.I.V.E. Expo is organized by Parents' Source, Berks
& Lancaster County's guide to services, support and entertainment for
families. A highlight of this years' expo will be "Ask Me Booths"
that will focus on developmental "assets" - those factors identified
as necessary building blocks for kids to grow into healthy, caring and responsible
adults. Experts on each topic will be available during the day to answer
questions and help parents learn more about how they can develop these positive
assets in their children. "Ask me" about skills to build self-esteem
in children, how to teach kids responsibility and how to help youth resist
peer pressure are just three examples of the topics to be presented. Literature
and activities designed to reinforce these concepts will also be available.
A variety of top notch entertainment will be available throughout the
day including: magician Wayne Hoffman, ventriloquist Marian and Friends,
a karate demonstration by Karate America, storytelling by the Reading Wizard,
and outlandish visual comedy by Pete Geist. In addition, the Reptile Canyon
will offer an educational program on reptiles, award-winning, toetapping
recording artist Jim Rule, Earth Rhythms will have a kids drumming circle,
and there will be a vocal performance by Berks Youth Theatre Academy and
a theatre performance by Smager's Childrens Theatre.
"Everyone has assets," says Holly Gage, President of Parents'
Source. "Everyone has qualities and characteristics that make them
a valuable part of our society. When we talk about 'building' assets, we
are referring to expanding upon these innate skills that are already a part
of who we are. Now that these assets have been 'formally' identified, we
can be more deliberate in our efforts to develop them in our children. This
Expo is a fun way for us to provide this information to our community so
that our children can succeed at home, in school, and in life."
Other event sponsors include UGI and Fairgrounds Square Mall.
